Scaled Composites was founded by [[Burt Rutan]] in 1982. They are renowned for their use of composite construction to build experimental aircraft for industry and for their high quality kit aircraft for home builders.<br /> <br /> Scaled Composites is most recently notable for winning the [[X Prize]] competition using their vehicle [[SpaceShip One]]. However, they have had many prior accomplishments, including the construction and successful flight of the Voyager airplane, which was the first manned aircraft to fly around the world without refueling.
