There is a significant quantity of [[water]] on Mars, especially at the poles.
Most of the water on the planet appears to be embedded in the soil or below its surface, on most of planet's surface. However, ESA's Mars Express spacecraft had found a patch of water ice sitting on the floor of an unnamed crater near the Martian north pole.

== Extraction ==

For relatively small amounts, surface ice may be brought into a heated [[habitat]]ion to melt. For larger amounts, a temporary habitat may be constructed to raise ambient temperature and pressure slightly so that the water in the [[soil]] becomes a gas which can then be collected and condensed.
