NIXRS is an acronym standing for NItrogen X Ray Stimulation propulsion. It works along the same principle as VASIMR. That is to say, a substance is bathed in electromagnetic radiation to which it is opaque, and then it expands so rapidly as to create thrust. In the case of NIXRS, it is nitrogen, used with an argon laser emitting at wavelengths of 126 nm. what's special about this is that it can be used in the earth's atmosphere, to create thrust for airplanes or rockets.
Ramjet NIXRS
In a Ramjet NIXRS, NIXRS is combined with a ramjet. Oxygen is burned with Kerosene or Hydrazine, while nitrogen is undergoing thermalization, or being heated. Thus, it is a combination of a rocket engine, a ramjet, and NIXRS.
