The Progress Spacecraft is an expendable unmanned cargo vehicle, derived from the Soyuz manned vehicle, and which is designed to be launched on a Soyuz launch vehicle. The spacecraft consists of a cargo module and propulsion module. It has been in use since 1978, when the Soviet Union began using it to support their Salyut space stations. It has been used extensively to support the Mir space station and ISS.
